Meet Apoorva Changedia

A creative spirit committed to healing through connection, narrative, and exploration, Apoorva believes therapy, while sacred and serious, can also hold laughter, lightness, and the unexpected joy of discovering ourselves. Apoorva Changedia is a clinical intern at Skylight Counseling Center, currently pursuing her MA in Counseling at Northwestern University’s CACREP-accredited program. She is working toward LCPC licensure in Illinois and brings a multidisciplinary background in journalism, advocacy, and the arts to her clinical work. Guided by a deep belief that healing begins with being heard, Apoorva approaches therapy as a collaborative process rooted in empathy, cultural humility, and creative exploration. Her lens is informed by logotherapy and narrative therapy, and she often integrates experiential interventions to help clients access meaning and reimagine their internal narratives. Whether through words, metaphors, or silence, she holds space for clients to make sense of the complexities they carry and honor their capacity for growth. She believes that healing rarely looks linear, and that safety, creativity, and collaboration are essential to meaningful therapeutic work. While also drawn to psychodynamic and existential approaches, Apoorva integrates cognitive and somatic tools tailored to each client’s unique needs. Apoorva is passionate about working with individuals navigating identity concerns, anxiety, life transitions, trauma, relationship dynamics, intergenerational patterns, and systemic marginalization. Having grown up multilingual in India and lived across cultural contexts, she is especially attuned to the intersections of culture, language, and mental health. Her work reflects a commitment to serving both urban and rural communities, and to expanding access to care through advocacy, education, and community engagement. Before formally training as a counselor, Apoorva worked as a radio host producing stories that bridged culture, identity, and well-being. Her commitment to holding space for others stems from a longstanding desire to understand people deeply, and to walk with them through life’s many transformative moments. With a background in storytelling, she believes each person holds within them the wisdom for change and that therapy is a process of uncovering what has always been meaningful. When not in session, Apoorva is usually in motion, exploring movement practices, crafting with her hands, or chasing stories that connect people across disciplines and borders.

“Our wounds are often the openings into the best and most beautiful parts of us” -David Richo Asha’s passion for counseling first began with her own battle with depression and anxiety. Her personal experience with therapy opened her eyes to how self-care and self-accountability can lead one closer to a happier, healthier lifestyle. Asha believes that counseling is most effective with an engaging therapeutic relationship as well as when clients are open and willing to put the work in towards improving and correcting counterproductive thoughts, behaviors and relationships. Life is not always easy and even with counseling, difficult days will inevitably occur. Asha prides herself in promoting how adopting effective coping skills in one’s daily life can make challenging days easier to conquer. Asha attended Eastern Illinois University where she received her bachelor’s in Sociology with a minor in Psychology and Criminology. Her devotion towards helping others continued further as she decided to pursue a career as a counselor. Asha received her master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at National Louis University. Asha also brings experience with working with severe mental illness through case management and crisis prevention. Asha believes that embracing weaknesses and insecurities is key towards breaking self-deprecating thoughts and inviting more room for positivity and confidence throughout everyday life. Asha takes special interest in improving self-esteem, stress management, thought management and interpersonal relationships to enhance mental health and overall wellness. Asha specializes in person-centered therapy which she believes allows clients to overall work towards realizing and or taking back their power within their life.

Meet Benita Whitfield

Benita Whitfield has been a social worker for over 20 years. Benita loves being a social worker, because it blends her loves for service, leadership, relationship building, and analytical thinking. She believes that the relationship between you and a therapist is key in reaching goals and good mental health. It is important to one’s mental health when they are working to heal that they can build and establish a sense of trust while building a strong therapeutic relationship alongside someone they trust. In Benita’s work as a school social worker, she saw how a child’s identity and security is linked to their familial relationships. This means that in her work she has a strong desire to increase and improve families to be whole and healthy. Benita has worked with a wide array of issues including but not limited to abuse, anxiety, assertiveness building skills/anger management, social skills, grief and loss, divorce, depression, self-injurious, suicidal ideations, trauma, domestic violence, and school related issues such as IEPs. Benita starts her work by meeting the client where they are at and uses approaches that empower clients and allow them to consider and utilize their own strengths. She has a calm, relaxed, and compassionate personality enabling her to be more patient and understanding with her clients. Benita has three degrees, a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Fisk University, a Master of Social Work from Jane Addams College of Social Work at University of Illinois at Chicago, and a Master of Arts in Educational Administration from Governors State University. Benita is a licensed clinical social worker, also possessing two provider educator licenses in social work and school administration. Benita concentrated in school social work; therefore, part of her specialty includes working with administrators, teachers, children, and families, regarding school related issues. She has extensive experience with IEPs, Section 504, school concern, detentions, suspensions, therapeutic day placement, and more. Benita is similar in her role as a social worker to how she is in her personal life. She is an all-around service of justice both at home as well as at work. She has rooted her life in ethical guidelines and values justice, service, conscientiousness, consideration, thoughtfulness, humor, relaxed time, patience, privacy, and commitment. Benita chose to become a social worker, because of all her experiences when in need of “helping programs”. She saw how the programs were lacking in some areas and wanted to be of better service. A servant working towards justice for all is the biggest belief/role in her life.

Cary brings compassion, patience, and relentless curiosity into the therapy room. Cary is completing his Couples and Family Therapy Practicum, and is passionate about working with adults, couples, teenagers, children, and families. He is dedicated to exploring the power dynamics, values, and beliefs that shape his client’s rich lives. Our collaborative work will explore the many ways our systems, both cultural and familial, shape our inner and outer selves. Cary worked as a teacher and Special Education Case Manager for almost a decade in Chicago, working with families to best support their children. He is specifically attuned to children or teenagers struggling with behavioral issues, executive functioning disorders, and individuals of all ages who may be struggling with motivation to change. He is excited and grateful for the opportunity to do individual work, but he believes that focusing on the family system, past or present, is key to helping members recognize how we shape each other’s behavior through power dynamics, communication styles, and ability to access our emotions. Cary believes that great work can only happen through trust, clarity of purpose, and self- awareness for both he and his clients. He firmly believes that he will never stop learning and hopes to work with clients with the same passion for curiosity. Cary is working on his Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Adler School of Psychology in Chicago. He has a Masters degree in Secondary Education with a certificate in Special Education, and a BA in Music from Skidmore College. Cary is in the second year of his current program where he is being trained to work with individuals and couples using a systemic, multi-cultural approach to therapy.

Cindy knows the power of taking a pause. A culture characterized by busy-ness, growing efficiency, and increasing demands for attention easily lends to people feeling anxious, confused, frustrated, and overwhelmed. Counseling serves as that much-needed break we humans need to mindfully think and compassionately feel in a world that often expects us to behave more like machines than the human beings we are. For Cindy, the counseling process is all about integration: integration between mind and body, what we are thinking and what we are feeling, and attuning to the parts of ourselves that needed to disconnect as a result of adaptive behaviors learned from past experiences. Cindy brings a warmth that is reflective of her innate passion for the work and respect for the process of personal growth and exploration. Her approach is relational, built upon a genuine connection, which allows her and her clients to explore interpersonal patterns in a safe, open, and non-threatening space. With patience and gentle, compassionate guidance, Cindy helps her clients grow an understanding of how behaviors emerged over time, ways their unique strengths can be nurtured today, and how to incorporate new skills for authentic, meaningful, and satisfying living. She treats many of life’s challenges including depression, anxiety, life-stage transitions, work/life balance, career satisfaction, perfectionism, self-care, and stress management. Cindy graduated from The Family Institute at Northwestern University with a Master of Arts in Counseling.

Meet Daniel Bahner

Daniel believes that people are, in many ways, like plants. We all need certain ingredients to reach our fullest potential. When a plant isn’t growing, we don’t ask, “what is wrong with the plant?” but instead understand that something happened in the environment. With this in mind, Daniel’s guiding question when working with clients experiencing psychological distress is, “what happened to you?” He knows that many clients have had to adapt to difficult situations or were never in environments where all of the necessary ingredients were provided. To help clients reduce their symptoms and start moving towards their goals, he prioritizes cultivating a therapeutic relationship that is built upon emotional safety, trust, authenticity, empathy, hope, and non-judgment. Through collaboration, clients grow into the version of themselves they hope to be, develop coping skills to manage difficult emotions, and are more resilient when faced with life's setbacks. Daniel excels with working with clients who want to better understand how their psychological symptoms are linked to experiences they have had in their past. By building a therapeutic space that honors the impact of these lived experiences on their minds and bodies, he helps clients rewrite the narratives of their lives and have more compassion for their many parts of themselves just trying to protect them. He also understands the impact ancient wisdom and spiritual practice can have on mental health and works with individuals of all faith traditions to incorporate this into their therapeutic journey as appropriate. Daniel received a Masters of Arts Counseling Psychology, with a specialization in trauma and crisis Intervention, from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology. He utilizes person-centered/humanistic theory, narrative therapy, and Internal Family Systems modalities to help clients make change and achieve their goals. Daniel welcomes clients from all racial, ethnic, gender and sexual identities as he sees the healing work of therapy to be a necessary part of bringing about a more just, equitable, and sustainable society. In his free time, Daniel enjoys spending time with his dog and loved ones, cooking, thrifting, going to the beach, dancing, biking, playing video games, and exploring Chicago. He enjoys finding common interests with his clients, in particular the types of stories clients are drawn to, as he knows how powerful myth, folklore, fairy tales, and archetypes can be to inspire and instill hope.

Relationships, no matter what kind make us who we are. We can not know who we are if we don’t know of those around us. Our everyday interactions with those around us, large or small, impact us as a result. There’s nothing more rewarding than sitting with clients, hearing how small changes towards healthy relationships has improved their lives. This includes nurturing the relationship with self- an important relationship in all our lives that we often ignore. Eunice's therapeutic approach is all about fairness- making sure that everyone is getting and giving what they want, need, and what those they are in a relationship with need as well. Eunice takes special interest and considerations of how past childhood traumas have impacted current relationships. She specializes in services for individuals, couples, and families. Eunice brings humor, kindness, and patience in her journeys with her client. She creates and holds a nonjudgmental space for all regardless of background and identities. From a simple decision-making problem to dealing with multiple complex trauma, she believes that she can walk together with her clients in their journey towards living their healthiest and best life.

Meet Hélène Stelian

Choosing someone to talk to about your mental health can feel vulnerable, and finding the right fit matters. The first few sessions are a chance for us to get to know one another, explore what brings you to therapy, and see whether we’re a good fit for working together—there’s no pressure or long-term commitment required. I believe that no matter what you've struggled with, what regrets you carry, or what mistakes you feel you've made, you deserve a meaningful and fulfilling life. Time and again, I've seen that people are capable of far more healing, growth, and reinvention than they often believe. My goal is to create a space where you feel truly seen, safe, and free from judgment. Clients often share that they are able to talk with me about things they’ve never felt comfortable saying out loud before, even in moments of deep pain, shame, or despair. From that place of honesty and trust, I help clients rediscover their resilience, hope, and capacity for change. My style is warm, compassionate, and direct. I am in your corner—encouraging growth, celebrating progress, and gently helping you notice what may be getting in your way. Along the way, I may share practical tools, resources, and strategies to support you between sessions. And because healing doesn’t always have to be heavy, I believe humor can be healing and welcome moments of lightness and laughter when they fit the moment. My approach is strengths-based, collaborative, and action-oriented, always tailored to each client’s needs. In practical terms, that means we may explore patterns from your past, navigate difficult emotions, improve communication and relationships, increase self-understanding, and help you move toward the life you want. I believe insight is most powerful when paired with action, and I enjoy helping clients recognize strengths they may have lost sight of, build confidence in themselves, and take meaningful steps toward the life they want to create. I work with adults in individual, couples, and group therapy. I’m especially drawn to supporting people through periods of uncertainty and change—times marked by shifting relationships, questions of meaning or identity, and the challenge of figuring out who you are becoming. These transitions often involve grief and loss, particularly the kinds of losses that can feel isolating or difficult to name. This may take the form of ambiguous or disenfranchised grief—experiences that are not always fully recognized or understood by others—such as caring for a parent with dementia, estrangement from a family member, the painful ending of a significant relationship, or supporting an adult child living with serious mental health challenges. My sensitivity to this work is informed both by clinical training and by personal experience with profound loss and ambiguity. I’m also drawn to helping clients struggling with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and anxiety-related conditions. OCD can be exhausting, confusing, and isolating, and I enjoy helping clients break free from cycles of fear, doubt, and compulsions. I use Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), the gold-standard treatment for OCD, as well as Inference-Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (I-CBT), a newer evidence-based approach for obsessive thinking. Coming to this profession later in life deepened my belief that it is never too late to change direction, rediscover yourself, and build a life that feels more aligned with who you are. Before entering the field of mental health, I spent many years in the corporate world in sales and marketing roles at Fortune 500 companies and later owned my own coaching business. These experiences help me understand the pressures many clients face around work, identity, achievement, and transition. I strive to create an affirming, inclusive space for clients of all backgrounds and identities, including LGBTQIA+ and neurodivergent clients, and those navigating marginalization or systemic barriers. I approach this work with humility, openness, and ongoing self-reflection. I hold a master's in counseling from The Family Institute at Northwestern University, a BA from Duke University, an MBA from Washington University in St. Louis, and a coaching certification from the Institute for Professional Excellence in Coaching. If you’re curious about working together, I welcome you to reach out and explore whether we might be a good match. Wondering how to pronounce Hélène? Say the letters “L” and “N,” with emphasis on the “N.” The H is silent.

At the heart of my work is a deep commitment to helping individuals, couples, adolescents, and families navigate the complexities of relationships and emotional pain. I specialize in creating a safe, compassionate space where you can explore the difficult emotions that often arise from love, loss, and conflict. I believe that true healing begins with understanding and embracing our pain, supported by a secure, empathetic relationship. These corrective emotional experiences can transform past wounds into new purpose and strength. With a Master’s and PhD from Adler University, as an AAMFT supervisor, and an individual supervisor at Northwestern University, I bring a trauma-informed perspective to every session, using a range of evidence-based therapeutic techniques tailored to your unique needs. Whether you're grappling with anxiety, depression, ADHD, relationship challenges, or the lingering effects of trauma, we will work together to help you reconnect with your inner wisdom and move toward the life and relationships you deserve. When we suppress grief or unresolved trauma, our bodies often hold onto it—manifesting as mental health struggles, physical tension, or emotional overwhelm. My approach emphasizes the importance of listening to your body and cultivating emotional awareness so you can shift limiting beliefs and heal the pain that may be holding you back. A significant part of my work involves psychoeducation on how relational stress and trauma affect overall well-being. Together, we’ll explore your relationship with yourself and others through therapeutic modalities such as Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and Somatic Experiencing. These approaches allow us to gently unpack the layers of your story, identifying the protective parts of you that have kept you safe—and learning to work with them, rather than against them. Therapy is a journey, and I will meet you exactly where you are, honoring your unique process. "The only way out is through," and it is such a privilege to walk alongside clients as they transform pain into purpose, rediscover their strength, and cultivate a more peaceful, connected life.

What are you looking for in a therapist? Is it a warm and direct approach? A sense of humor? Someone to walk alongside you as you build more authentic and fulfilling relationships to yourself and others? Then you have come to the right place! As a couple and family therapist, I strive to provide a safe and encouraging space for intimate relationships, families, and individuals to process, heal, challenge patterns, explore different ways of thinking… and even enjoy some fun and laughs along the way! As a queer woman of color, I have a passion for working with relationships that lie outside of what society would deem “traditional”. I am LGBTQIA+/poly affirming, kink-aware, and practice therapy from a feminist, anti-racist, and Health at Every Size perspective. I received my master's training in Couple and Family Therapy from Adler University. I specialize in and enjoy working with relationships and families navigating conflict, intimacy/sexual concerns, communication issues, genuine trust and connection building, life transitions and parenting. I also have experience working with individuals on exploring self/identity, building self-esteem, increasing self-awareness and emotional intelligence, navigating early adulthood, life transitions, and managing anxiety/depression. In case you’re curious about the human behind the therapist, I’m always happy to share a bit about myself with clients. When I’m not in therapy world, you can find me in my kitchen cooking and singing, spending time with family and friends, or coloring, reading, and enjoying the sunlight by the Lakefront. I love traveling, both to explore new places and to visit my people on the East Coast where I grew up! And yes, this therapist loves binge watching TV shows on her couch just as much as you do. I know from experience how much courage it takes to share your story with a therapist. I also know from experience how incredibly life-changing working with the right therapist can be. I’d be honored to be a part of your journey towards creating the life you truly desire and deserve.

As an integrative therapist and former educator, Rich nurtures an environment based on empathy, congruence, and unconditional positive regard for his clients. Rich is Person-centered and believes that all people have a core identity—a Self—that is good, light, open, and free. A chief aim of therapy, then, is to reconnect people to their inner Self—that is, for people to discover what it means to become Self-led. Rich draws on parts work with his clients to achieve this. Though Rich’s integrative approach is rooted in Person-Centered theory and parts work, he borrows from Solutions Focused Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Design Thinking according to the specific needs of the client. Whether clients are experiencing anxiety, depression, a loss of connection or Purpose, life transitions, substance abuse, bereavement, or other issues, Rich helps unlock a pathway forward that is non-judgmental, nurturing, and purposeful. Rich spent twenty years as a high school teacher and worked in a Specialized Mental Health Rehabilitation Facility. He has extensive experience with adolescent populations, with adults with serious mental illness, and with marginalized populations, including the unhoused. Rich has deep knowledge of addiction recovery programs, as well. Rich holds a Bachelor’s in English Education from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, a Master’s in Interdisciplinary Arts from Columbia College Chicago, a Master’s in Educational Leadership from Roosevelt University, and a Master’s of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Capella University. He was a National Board Certified Teacher and is a member of the American Counseling Association.

Meet Robert Lloyd

Robert is a Chicago native from the Southside of the city. He believes that mental health counseling is a transformative experience that helps us to reflect and step into a more informed future. Especially during these uncertain times, life can get even heavier. Robert is a proponent of self-care and considers therapy a part of that care. Doing the inner work and digging deep to recognize and work on unhealthy behaviors can help bring more positivity into our lives. Robert believes in having spaces to receive unbiased support. Many of us have family and friends but it can be difficult to lay all of our problems on them or receive supports that are unbiased because of the nature of the relationship. Robert is interested in relationship development, identity issues, anxiety, depression, queer-related issues and more. Robert brings a diverse background in education where he has nine years’ worth of experience as a teacher and trainer with multiple stakeholders. He brings his passion and drive to help others and assist his clients to transform to the best versions of themselves.

Meet Rolanda Brown

Rolanda Brown is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist whose work is grounded in a simple truth: healing is the restoration of right relationship with Self, not the management of symptoms. She works in the territory most people are taught to move past quickly — the gap between who you are in the world and who you are underneath it, the kind of depletion that has no obvious cause and no easy name, the quiet recognition that the life you have built is not the one that fits. She works primarily with Black women, and welcomes women across cultural backgrounds whose experience meets her in this same territory. The patterns are familiar. Over-functioning. Self-abandonment. Parts of self that once kept them safe but are now keeping them small, and at a distance from who they actually are. Together, she and her clients slow down enough to see what's underneath. The work is unhurried, honest, and grounded in a deep regard for each client's own pace. For many of these women, this is not a return to a former self. It is an emergence into who they have always been — a Self many were never given the conditions to know. Some bring faith to this work, in seasons that are solid, strained, or rebuilding; Rolanda holds that part of the territory with the same care she holds the rest. Rolanda's conviction underneath all of this is simple. So many people have learned to live outside of themselves — adapting, performing, over-giving — while losing connection to who they truly are. The work, then, is not to become someone new. It is to discover who you are, build the capacity to stay there, and learn how to live in alignment with the truth of what you find. Rolanda has held both clinical and leadership roles at Skylight for over nine years, including service as Director of Counseling and Chief Clinical Officer, where she shaped care delivery, supervision, and program development. She holds a Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy and a Master of Science in Psychology.

“Mom of four. Nervous system advocate. Direct, intuitive, and grounded in truth—with just enough humor to make hard conversations possible. I don’t just lead this work—I live it.” — Tyler Jasper Hi, I’m Tyler Jasper (she/her), Director of Culture and Belonging. I’m passionate about creating environments where people feel seen, valued, and supported—not just in theory, but in practice. With over ten years of experience in clinical work and organizational spaces, I bring a unique lens that bridges emotional insight with culture-building strategy. My work centers on helping individuals and teams move beyond surface-level inclusion efforts into meaningful, sustainable change. I support organizations in examining the dynamics that shape culture—unspoken norms, power, and communication patterns—and guide them toward building spaces rooted in trust, accountability, and belonging. I’m known for being direct, intuitive, and deeply relational. I bring a balance of honesty and care, challenging teams to engage in the work with courage while creating enough psychological safety for real growth to happen. Humor and storytelling are core to how I lead—because even in complex or uncomfortable conversations, connection matters. Leadership Approach I approach this role through a blend of relational, systems, and nervous-system-informed frameworks. My background as a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor informs how I understand human behavior, conflict, and resilience within organizations. I integrate principles from internal family systems, family systems theory, polyvagal theory, and relational life therapy to support both individual and collective transformation. I am also Gottman Level 1 trained and trained in Relational Life Therapy for Couples, which strengthens my ability to support communication, repair, and accountability within teams and leadership structures. Beyond the Role Outside of my work, I’m a mom of four who values presence, connection, and joy. You’ll often find me cooking, spending time with my family, practicing mindfulness, or finding laughter wherever I can. These parts of my life deeply inform how I show up in my work—grounded, human, and committed to building cultures where people can truly thrive.

Meet Zakiya Harris

If you’re feeling stuck, overwhelmed, like you’ve lost your sense of control, or unsure of how to move forward in your life, you’re in the right place. I was drawn to this work after realizing how deeply mental health can affect an individual’s overall health, daily functioning, and important relationships. To me, therapy is a unique experience for every individual, and together we can create the space that best fits your needs. I would describe my therapeutic approach as client-centered, trauma-informed, and goal-oriented. With each of my clients, I find it important to center empathy, collaboration, and open communication. I often utilize mindfulness and attention to the mind-body connection in my work as well. My background in social work also grounds me to guide my clients through their own identity exploration, whether that be their race, gender, sexuality, etc. The relationship we have as client and therapist is my main focus. When a client knows they’re in a safe, nonjudgmental space, they’re better able to step out of their comfort zone and work towards self-understanding, self-compassion, acceptance, and healing. As a therapist, it is my intention to help my clients grow in the ways that are most important to them, so they feel better connected to and more grounded in themselves, their goals, and their relationships. I work with adolescents, adults, couples, and families. I specialize in trauma/PTSD, anxiety, depression, self-esteem/self-worth, transitions, relational difficulties, stress, identity exploration (racial trauma, LGBTQIA+), and spirituality. I am a licensed social worker who graduated from the University of Chicago’s School of Social Work, Policy, and Practice with a Master’s in Social Work. In my free time, I enjoy trying new restaurants, traveling, and practicing mindfulness/meditation. It takes strength to ask for help, and the first step is always the hardest, but you have what it takes to get to where you want to be. It’d be my honor to go on this new journey with you!
